Announcing the 2009 Reunion
We are pleased to announce the Annual Meeting and Reunion for 2009 will be held
at Fredericksburg, Stafford County, Virginia the weekend of October 2-4. Check-in
will begin at 1 PM Friday at the Country Inn and Suites at Falmouth - $85 per night
includes free breakfast, meeting rooms and projection equipment:
656 Warrenton Rd., Fredericksburg, VA - 540-656-2398x Register with "TCS Reunion"
After Registration, the Welcome and Genealogy Exchange will begin at two - our
Membership Chair, Teddie Sue Carter, has asked that known Carter descendants bring
a chart on their family, some photos, some interesting narrative, or relevent material to Stafford
County. She and Pat Brown will lead the Exchange for all from 2 to 5 PM while Bob
Brown, Chairman of the Board, will lead the Annual Board Meeting from 3 to 4 PM.
There will be an informal light dinner from 6 to 9 PM, which will include a
presentation by Melanie Marquis on the archeological digs at Washington's Boyhood
Farm and at the nearby Carter sites in Lancaster County.
After breakfast at the Inn on Saturday, an all-day bus tour will leave at 8:45 led
by Doug Land, local historian and genealogist. The first stop will be at Chatham, the
Stafford home of William Fitzhugh and Lucy Carter Fitzhugh, daughter of
Robert "King" Carter. We will take the group photo at this site and arrive at the
Aquia Episcopal Church before noon for a box lunch in the Parish Hall. This
church in the northern part of the county was attended by the families of both
King Robert and Captain Thomas Carter; of special note, this was the exact site of
the James Carter homesite, son of Thomas Sr., who is the proven ancestor of our
Founder and President Pro Tempe, Fay Wade.
We will tour the church and grounds for an hour after lunch and head back down
to Historic Falmouth. This was an example of an early Co-op and of course, King
Carter and his son Secretary John were involved! Time and weather permitting, we will
visit Glencairne, temporary home of King Carter's descendants in the early nineteenth
century and now the home of the Chichester Family. The Carter Society General Meeting
will then be held back at the Inn from 5 to 6 PM, by Charlie Carter, TCS President. And
the day will conclude with dinner at 7 at the Claiborne Restaurant at the old RF&P
train station, 200 Lafayette Blvd. in Olde Towne Fredericksburg.
After services for those interested back at Historic Aquia Church, Sunday is left
open for individaul tours and points of interest. Dinner is scheduled at five at the
Kenmore Inn in Olde Towne Fredericksburg for those remaining. We want to thank
co-chairmen Betsy Carter, Margaret Gunn and Bob Lumsden for all of their wonderful
effort and planning. Feel free to email Bob Lumsden for registration forms: rdlumsden@msn.com
