Announcement Letter

Dear Carter Society Members and Friends,

It is with great pleasure; we the 2024 Reunion Committee extend to you an invitation to attend The Carter Society’s 23rd Annual Reunion. Our theme this year is:

Our Carters, and the part they played in establishing our early American history!”

You will learn about the Monacans, an Indian tribe and the First Americans to inhabit this land. The homes of five presidents. First, Monticello, home of the Thomas Jefferson our 3rd President, author of the Declaration of Independence, a historic house and plantation, museum, research institute, and presidential library. We will learn that the land where Monticello now stands was originally owned by Edward Carter, the second son of John Carter who had received the land from King George II. Second, Montpelier, home of James Madison our 4th President who is known as the “Father of the Constitution,” “Architect of the Bill of Rights” and the marriage to the young, vivacious Dolley whom he married at age 43. Third, Highlands, the home of James Monroe our 5th President, a working plantation in the early American economy. Fourth, Major General Zachery Taylor, born at Bloomsbury, our 12th President. Fifth, Pine Knot, the summer home of Theodore Roosevelt the 26th President of the United States. We will visit Blenheim Vineyards where a Carter descendent will tell us Blenheim history, land that was owned by John Carter eldest son of Robert “King” Carter. We will dine at an historic 1784 Tavern, and we recommend to you a visit to the beautiful hilltop Carter Mountain Orchard.
